Heavy rain, thunderstorms forecast for Samoa
The Samoa Meteorological Office has issued a heavy rain advisory for Tuesday evening and warned the public to be wary of slippery roads and mountain passes.
The forecast of heavy rain is due to a trough of low pressure that has drifted south of the islands, according to a heavy rain advisory issued by the Met Office at 5pm on Tuesday evening (local time).
“This system will provide brief moderate to heavy falls at times with few thunderstorms towards night,” the Meteorological Office advisory states.
“It is expected to weaken as it slowly drifts south of the group by tomorrow. Therefore, the heavy rain advisory will remain for all of Samoa.”
The Meteorological Office says the potential impact of the heavy downpours include “poor visibility, foggy and slippery roads over mountains passes and ranges.”
Winds will be gusty at times and pooling is to be expected near roadsides and waterways.
Thunderstorms were also forecast for Tuesday night, according to the Meteorological Office.
