Associate Minister under investigation
A criminal investigation has been initiated against the Associate Minister for the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration, So’oalo Mene, the Police have confirmed.
The Commissioner of Police and Prisons, Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil, told the Samoa Observer that the Associate Minister’s case was currently under review.
“We do have an investigation on the Associate Minister," he said.
"The file is currently at the Attorney General’s office for review."
The Commissioner refused to confirm whether the investigation is over allegations of assault and property damage but said that the matter involved was “serious”.
“The allegation that came to our office is serious because it is now a Police matter and it involves an Associate Minister,” the Commissioner said.
“It’s usually my policy when it involves someone high up in Government we get a second opinion from the Attorney General’s office on [the case].”
Attempts by the Samoa Observer to contact So’oalo, who is the Member of Parliament from Gagaifomauga Nu. 2, were unsuccessful.
He has not responded to calls and text messages since last week.
