We need clean tap water

Heavy downpours always cause people to be cautious about many things.

One of those things is finding clean water.

Some people have their taps running freely but the water is not clean for consumption.

Speaking to the Village Voice, Timothy Poutoa of Salelesi was on his way with three buckets to fetch clean water for his family yesterday when Village Voice caught up with him.

The 21 year-old said they needed clean water for drinking and for making their meals.

“I don’t know about other families here but my family is always cautious when it comes to consuming water especially when we face bad weather.

“Knowing the changes in the weather from last week, you can never know if the water is affected.

“Most of the people in our village are experiencing the same thing as us and we do care about our health.

“That’s why water from the  village well is safer to drink and for other use.

Timothy said this unclean tap water situation has been there as long as he could remember.

“It has been like this since forever so I’m sure our village has requested the authorities for clean water before but I don’t see anything new.

Timothy’s families include his mom and his two brothers, who are both working for the betterment of their family.

Timothy is responsible for doing most of the chores, making food and taking care of his mom.

“My dad passed away so we are just focusing on taking care of our mother and she expects clean water for her health.

“The well is too far away but I don’t mind because I’m fetching water for my family but for the future, we need our tap water to be clean.

“For drinking and for making food.

“Prevention is better than cure.

“And that is why I ask the government for help with accessing clean water, to make our job of fetching water easier.”
