Hard work pays off

All the hardwork, all the sacrifices, it all pays off.

Forty three year old Asomuamua Paleso’o of Faleatiu bases his opinion on his experience in his own life.

Mr.Paleso’o was on his way back from the plantation, with coconuts over his shoulders when the Village Voice team approached him.

He was an employee of several organizations before he became just a regular plantation guy.

“I’ve spent 10 years of my life working for myself and for my family,” he said to the Village Voice.

“Recently, my last job was at the Faleolo Airport and then I resigned in the month of April this year.

“I know it’s a crazy idea considering that a lot of people are dying to have jobs but I’ve had 10 years of work experience and for me, I felt that was enough time for that life and now it’s time for myself and my family.

“My mother is still alive and well and so are my brothers; and they are my family.

“I’m not married and it’s good because I get to do little things that matter for my mother and siblings.

“Whether it’s selling coconuts or anything else from the plantation, that’s okay with me because it’s a quick way to make money and I get to spend some quality time with the people I love.

“I mean to be honest, when I was working I’ve been telling myself that I was going to break away from the working life and I never did.

“I couldn’t because I was trying to work hard for my mother especially, to give her a better life and now I’m happy because she’s living her life in New Zealand.

“I think that’s why it took me so long to take a break from work so this year in April was the first time I made that decision and I stand by it no matter the consequences.

“All I want to say now is that life is good and I’m happy.

“I’m happy to finally put my mind at ease again.”
