The ‘Samoa Offering Hope’ (S.O.H) Charitable Trust has received donations from the A.N.Z. Bank and the National Bank of Samoa.

Made on Friday, the donation is for the victims of the recent Flea Market Fire at Savalalo.

A.N.Z. Bank C.E.O, Mathew Fisher, presented their donation of $1,000.

“This is one of the roles A.N.Z Bank plays in assisting with the people of Samoa such as the victims of the Savalalo Flea Market Fire through the S.O.H. initiative which I believe is a great step forward, “ he said.

Mr. Fisher also thanked the government for the quick response in re-building the Flea Market and added that A.N.Z. Bank is also working with its customers and the vendors of the Flea Market affected by the fire.

The National Bank of Samoa (N.B.S) donated $2,000 toward the cause and its Chief Executive Officer, Tu’u’u Amaramo Sialaoa, expressed N.B.S’s support for Samoa Offering Hope.

“The National Bank of Samoa is pleased to be part of and supporting the ‘Samoa Offering Hope’ initiative helping businesses and individuals get back on their feet and restore their ability to support their families, our community, and the economy,” said Tu’u’u.

“The National Bank of Samoa has set up a bank account for the purpose of receiving donations and has extended new affordable arrangements for debt repayments to bank customers whose businesses were destroyed by the fire.”

S.O.H Chairperson and President of Samoa Hotel Association, Adele Kruse and Taimalie Ernest Betham, Director of Betham and Company Chartered Accountants, were present to receive these donations from the two banks, and thanked them for their valuable support and vital roles as members of the S.O.H Taskforce.

“We are thankful to the banks for accepting the call of a nation and recognizing the importance of partnering with the S.O.H. Charitable Trust as members of the Taskforce, to assist in the aftermath of an extraordinary event such as the Flea Market fire,” said Ms. Kruse.

Adele Kruse, Taimalie Ernest Betham and Fiona Ey of Clarke Ey Law Firm have teamed up with the four local banks, ANZ Bank, National Bank of Samoa, Samoa Commercial Bank, and Bank of South Pacific to facilitate the collection of this relief effort for a period of one month.  The 30 day countdown commenced on the 28th of January 2016.
