Man threatens couple in front of shop

A man at the centre of an incident in February this year, where he allegedly walked into a school armed with a gun, threatened to shoot a couple in front of a shop last Saturday.

A woman, who witnessed the incident in front of the Frankie Utualii supermarket, told the Samoa Observer that the man made a scene and threatened to shoot a young man who was with his wife and their baby.

“I came out with my husband after we did our shopping and I saw people gathering at where a young couple was standing with their baby, while this man was making a scene and threatening to shoot this young man,” she said.

“Everyone just waited on what he was going to do to the young man, even my husband was getting ready for whatever happened on the day. A chief from Tufulele told the drunken man to lower his voice and to stop disrespecting other people.”

The eyewitness, who did not want to be identified due to security reasons, said the man was drunk and shouted in front of the supermarket.

She said there were a lot of people who stopped to watch him, and he then retreated and left the supermarket’s premises.

But others, who were also at the scene, said it is not the first time for the man to abuse customers who go to shop at the Frankie outlet.

“This man has always done this, especially at that main area, he likes doing it in public places where there is a crowd,” she said.

Members of the public recognised him as the father behind another incident, but this time involving his children’s school, where he allegedly entered the Utuali’i Primary School in February armed with a gun and confronted a teacher.

A Frankie Utualii supermarket employee has refused to comment on the confrontation last Saturday.

Police Commissioner Fuiavaili'ili Egon Keil when contacted by Samoa Observer, said the confrontation in front of the supermarket was not reported to the Police.

And the man who walked into the primary school with a gun in February was arrested.

"The Police officers arrested him and took his gun, unless he has another gun. I am not aware of the incident so I cannot say anything more on the matter," he said.
