Four Samoan boxers, who recently attended their 2020 Olympic qualifiers in Jordan, hope they will be able to join their families on Monday after undergoing 14-day self-isolation.

The team leader of the boxing squad, Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali, told Samoa Observer that they were in self-isolation in their family homes in Australia and Sunday marked their fourteenth and final day.

"We are all good, we are fine and we are in self isolation in our family homes in Australia, and today is the fourteenth day since we left Jordan," he said.

They also said it appears the whole boxing team including their coach have emerged from the Australian government’s mandatory self-isolation exercise unscathed.

"None of us are sick at all, we can finally leave the house tomorrow (Monday) so we will try and seek out a medical center to conduct our tests just to be certain we’re virus free," he added.

Despite being in self-isolation Ato said he continued with his training and preparations.

"We have been training individually on our own at where we're staying at so each of our teams are still training from home. The Olympics have been postponed until 2021 and the next qualifier is uncertain at this stage, however, I'm still continuing my training at home," he said.

Recent media reports stated that six members of the boxing teams who attended the qualifiers in Jordan tested positive for COVID-10. However, Ato told Samoa Observer that they are safe and were not in the same qualifiers as the six who tested positive.

"Croatia and Turkey teams were not in our Olympic qualification tournament in Jordan, they were at a different tournament in London, England which is for European qualifiers. We are still okay as of now, no one in our team is sick," he said.
