Samoan Agnes Fruean has made history as the first Samoan female to take on the position of Chief Operating Officer of Digicel Samoa.

The 37-year-old, who is from the villages of Amaile, Aleipata and Nofoalii and is the youngest of Tauiliili Joseph Kolose and Tavai Fruean, said she felt honoured to be appointed to the position.

With her new role, she now manages and oversees the following functions of the business from retail to distribution, home and entertainment and marketing.

The announcement comes a day after Digicel Samoa announced the appointment of Mark Witthuhn as the new Chief Executive Officer of Digicel Samoa. He was the former Chief Operating Officer before his promotion.

In a press release issued by the Irish-owned telecommunications company, Digicel Regional C.E.O. Shally Jannif congratulated Ms. Fruean on her appointment.

Ms. Fruean has been with Digicel for over five years, starting off as a mobile advertising manager before landing the manager marketing role which she held since 2016 until her promotion.

The newly appointed Chief Operating Officer has a vast experience in the area of telecommunication with a reputation carrying her through to drive innovation and growth throughout her career.

Though she believes anyone can achieve great success with the right mindset, focus and attitude, Ms. Fruean also believes that such beliefs need the right support and guidance.

"As a member of the Digicel aiga and family, I am privileged to have access to so many great mentors and leaders in the business that continuously challenge us to keep doing and being better versions of ourselves," she added.

"Each new day brings a new lesson and a new learning. Equally as important for success is a supportive team with a can-do attitude and I've been very fortunate to work with an amazing bunch of people that provide unconditional support."
