Parents query relevance of P.T.A. fees

I am not aware of any P.T.A. fees. In fact I just knew from the paper today, and based on what I know now, the P.T.A. fee should not affect any student’s education as it has nothing to do with their education. The Minister should look into it and to avoid children being sent home due to P.T.A. fees.

There is a good side and a bad side to that issue. Good side is that the parents should try and cooperate and pay their P.T.A. fees, and the bad side is that kids are being sent home due to those fees. That fee should not be a hindrance to the education of the children.

Etevise Luaao, 55, Lalovaea

Children's education is free now because of the Government scheme so I don’t see any valid reasons on why these people should send our kids home. I mean they can only send our kids home if they have unpaid school fees. Honestly speaking, even though the Government is paying for the fees, we are still struggling with those P.T.A. fees. Not all families are well off we are also having a hard time earning money to feed our families and our children. I would rather pay for my kid’s tuition than paying the P.T.A. fee.

Vaitoelau Taamale, 88, Falealili

I am a matai holder in my village and I must say there are only two committees that a village should have. It’s the agricultural committee and the road committee, but there’s no such thing as a school committee. In my opinion, students shouldn’t be sent home because of the P.T.A. fee because it has nothing to do with their education.

Unesi Fiu, 33, Leauvaa

I don’t agree with the idea of sending our children home when they don’t pay the P.T.A. fees that is just ridiculous. But if that’s the case then I think the parents should prioritise their children’s educational needs by paying the P.T.A. fees.

Vaifale Alaovae, 62, Leauvaa

I do not support parents paying those P.T.A. fees. I have kids myself and I don’t know if I have ever paid any P.T.A. fees. We send our children to school to learn and we pay for their school fees because we want them in school, and yet they be sending them home because of unpaid P.T.A. fees.
