An Indian family based in Samoa is behind their child's recent success in tennis and are helping him in every way possible.

Young Arta Madankumar won a gold medal for the U-12 Boys Division in the local competition and he was also given the most improved award.

"I am very happy about this award, and I want to be a professional tennis player when I grow up," he said, after the presentation.

Arta has been playing for almost three years and also gets the chance to participate in overseas tournaments, every time his family travels abroad for holidays.

Madan Madankumar, who is the father of the rising tennis star, said he also plays tennis and helps his son in his training sessions.

"We show our support for him by bringing him to his training here and after that I help him practice at home. I am a cricket player so I have a background in sport and I help out in terms of his physical training," he said. "We as his parents are very proud of him and his achievements, and we look forward in seeing what the future holds for him."

Arta has qualified to play for the East Pacific Regional tennis competition and he will be preparing for that upcoming event.

The Madankumar family is ecstatic seeing their son enjoying his game and making progress in the sport that he loves.
