Dead man in Vaipuna
Police are investigating after they found a severely decomposed body at Vaipuna on Wednesday morning.
The Commissioner of Police, Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil, told the Samoa Observer the Criminal Investigation Division is treating the case as a homicide case until they have strong evidence otherwise.
“A dead body was found this morning and preliminary review of the body indicates that it [is a case of death by] natural causes; however as stated before, we treat each case differently," said the Commissioner.
“We always look at it [as a homicide] until it is not.
“We look at obvious evidence if there is any signs of struggles, sign of force trauma, any wounds, existing medical issues, the age and their condition."
He said Police considered many factors during their preliminary review upon arriving at the scene.
Doctors will also examine the body.
“Then we [will] put everything together then, we come to a nice clear picture and we make an opinion if it’s a criminal or none criminal.”
Asked whether an autopsy will be ordered and the Commissioner said he was uncertain.
The body was found by a family member and it was unclear when the man had died.
