Lupe staying positive ahead of Ba clash

Despite a 6-0 loss in their opening Champions League fixture, Lupe o le Soaga still think they can make a statement in the competition.

Lupe’s second game in Group D is against Fiji’s Ba on Thursday at Stade Mahina in Tahiti at 5 pm Samoan time.

Coach Fa’aeanu’u Paul Ualesi said his team are not giving up after their 6-0 loss to AS Venus on Monsay night.

“We are still fighting," he told O.F.C. Media.

“Like I said before the first game, we are here to compete.

"We need to work as a team, we need to polish up [our] defence as well," Fa’aeanu’u said.

"We need some good finishing as well."

The coach said AS Venus were tough opponents because of the speed they played at, although he thought his team did an okay job matching it.

“But we need to be consistent, and maintain that,” Fa’aeanu’u said.

Ba also suffered a 6-0 loss in their opening game against Auckland City, and their coach Ricki Herbert said his side would be looking for a win to stay alive in the tournament.

"I said to the boys, I don't want to come here and kind of sit back and hope and guess and sort of wonder," the former New Zealand and Wellington Phoenix coach told O.F.C. Media.

"So we'll just be a very positive side, we'll go forward, we'll attack as much as we can."

The two unbeaten sides AS Venus and Auckland City will face off at 8pm on Thursday, before the final round of games on Monday.
