Arrest warrant for Coin Save owner

The District Court has issued a warrant of arrest for one of Samoa's most prominent businessmen and the owner of the Coin Save retail chain, Tu’itu’ioaiga Teeking Weng, after he failed to appear in Court on Tuesday.

Tu’itu’ioaiga was due to appear before Judge Leota Raymond Schuster for alleged failure to comply with a written notice from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The charge is in relation to an allegation concerning a notice from the M.N.R.E. to the businessman relating to rubbish.

An Attorney General’s Office lawyer, Silupevaelei Rexona Titi, asked the Court to issue a warrant of arrest for Tu’itu’ioaiga when he did not appear in Court.

Judge Leota granted the request and the businessman, upon his arrest, will be kept in custody until the Court makes another order.
