McDonald’s gets Pageant naming rights
McDonald’s Restaurant in Apia has secured the naming rights for the 2018 Miss Samoa Pageant.
Restaurant Owner and President, Tautolo Charlie Tautolo, presented a cheque of $50,000 to the Miss Samoa Pageant Director, Lemalu Lina Slade-Palamo.
The presentation of the funding was done yesterday in the restaurant and would go towards assisting in the running and preparations of the pageant.
“I was contacted by the Samoa Events Inc. (S.E.I.) committee in the past concerning sponsorship, and so this morning I wanted to fulfil that commitment by sponsorship (of) the Miss Samoa again.
“I believe that if we develop our country through its economy, I am sure that all businesses like McDonald’s will benefit from it.
“The allocated budget set for separate projects for this year has been the reason behind the donations amount being cut down compared to last year,” Tautolo said.
Acknowledging the Prime Minister and his Government’s focus on infrastructure investment in Samoa, Tautolo said they are thankful and appreciate how people are uniting to help the country.
Lemalu said the $50,000 funding will be used to cover their expenses including the purchase of prizes for the contestants.
“Due to the fact that we’re hosting the pageant in Savai’i this year, therefore has made it more expensive compared to last year. Mostly it will be used for the contestants’ prizes.
“We are also thankful to our other sponsors like Samoa Shipping Corporation Limited, Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B.), Samoa Observer, and other companies that have donated financial assistance which will all go towards our preparations.
“A problem we are currently facing is the accommodations available for people coming over for that particular weekend for the pageant but have nowhere to stay,” she said.
The launch of the 2018 Miss Samoa will be held on August 30 at Taumeasina Island Resort. All contestants will travel to Savai’i on September 3 to participate in a week-long programme in the lead up to the crowning night on September 8. It will be held for the first time at the Don Bosco Hall at Salelologa.
