Bad weather hits Samoa Airways flights

Severe weather predicted for Samoa in the next 24 hours has brought delays to Samoa Airways flights for Monday and Tuesday.

The national carrier has announced a 10-hour delay to its flights scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.  

“Please be advised that due to the current weather pattern currently experienced in Apia (Samoa) and for the safety of our passengers and crew, our services to Auckland on Monday 17th February 2020 will now be delayed by 10 hours,” a statement from the airline reads.

“Apia to Auckland scheduled for Monday 17th February 2020 will now depart Apia at 6:30pm and arrive into Auckland at 9:40pm.

“Auckland to Apia scheduled for Monday 17th February 2020 will now depart Auckland at 10:35pm and arrive into Apia at 3:25am on Tuesday 18th February 2020.”

The airline apologised for any inconvenience caused to travelers.

 The latest severe weather bulletin issued at 5 am by the Meteorology office forecasts wind, rain and flooding warning in force for all major rivers and vulnerable areas in Samoa.

According to the Met Office coastal flood advisory is now in effect for Samoa, small craft advisory remains for all coastal waters.

“A deep low pressure system lies within the vicinity of Samoa,” says the Met Office.

“Most of strong winds and heavy rain impacted Tutuila early this morning.

“Tropical disturbance 07F remains near Tuvalu approximately 1347km from Samoa.”
