Four young men charged in connection with an armed robbery that led to the death of a Chinese man last year have decided to remain behind bars until their hearing in April. 

Brothers Gogosina and Mikaele Leilua; Tafi Samuelu; and Kome Sioeli of Vaiusu appeared before the Supreme Court this month for their bail hearing. 

The accused, who have all denied the charges against them, had initially applied for bail before the Christmas holiday but they have since deferred their applications. 

Mikaele Leilua and Samuelu are facing one count of burglary for entering the Pacific Trades Limited business at Vaitele in October without authority with intent to commit a crime. 

Sioeli is charged for attempted murder of a Chinese national: Jun Li. 

When the matter was called for a bail hearing this month, defense lawyer Leiataualesa Komisi Koria withdrew the defendants’ applications. 

He represented Gogosina Leilua who is facing a murder charge for the death of Cao Yaqing. 

The youngest of the accused is alleged to have stabbed the Chinese national to death on 12 October 2019. 

Leiataualesa also acted on behalf of other defence lawyers who were not present in Court. 

Justice Tafaoimalo Leilani Tuala–Warren said since there will be no bail hearing the matter will be adjourned until April 20th for trial.
