The water supply at the Apia Park has been reconnected after the Samoa Water Authority settled the matter with the Samoa Sports Facility Authority (S.S.F.A.). 

In response to queries from the Samoa Observer, S.W.A. Public Relations Unit team leader, Samuelu Puleiata, confirmed that the water supply was reconnected late last week. 

He said this was after discussion with S.S.F.A. 

Asked about the outstanding water bills at the sporting facilities, Mr. Puleiata said such information on customer data is confidential. 

The S.S.F.A. remains silent on the issue with the water woes at the park.

Claims that the water woes was a result of unpaid water bills from the Pacific Games were strongly denied by the Pacific Games Office.

Samoa Pacific Games, Commercial Manager, Kurt Fatupaito, said their office had followed up the water problem when the Samoa Observer queried the office. 

Mr. Fatupaito said S.S.F.A. had not referred any issues in regards to bills for the Apia Park with the Pacific Games. 

“Our Office did check with S.W.A. on our bills and based on the statement provided to us, we were in line with our payments,” he responded in an email. 

“I went further yesterday and got S.W.A. to print the bills for the months noted on the statement given your query and have now picked up where the confusion lies. There is a difference between the dates on the statement and the meter reading dates used by S.W.A.”

Furthermore, Mr. Fatupaito said having identified the arrears in question, the office is now processing payment to clear it as quickly as possible. 

Athletes and sporting bodies that have utilised the Apia Park in the past months have had to use the facilities without any running water. They have had to wait until they go home to use the bathrooms.
