A male from Savai’i has been arrested by Police over the alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl.

The sexual assault case was confirmed by the Police Commissioner, Fuiavailiili Egon Keil, in an interview with Samoa Observer.

“There is a case in Savai’i involving a nine year old that was involved in a sexual assault incident,” he said. 

“No one appreciates such incidents [sexual assaults against minors] because we are a nation of laws. 

"We have customs and traditions that go against such incidents like this, and as a parent it is very disturbing. As a society, these acts are not tolerated which is why Police will prosecute any individual that does such acts to the fullest extent of the law.”

It is not known when the defendant will appear in Court.
