Local company Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B.) has presented a $500 tala cheque each with certificates to over 20 of their scholarship recipients under its S.S.A.B. Meka back to school promotion.

The presentation was done at the company's conference room in Taufusi with the stationery firm's founder and owner Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai on hand to congratulate the scholarship recipients.

"We are proud to present our lucky recipients their scholarship awards today," she said.

Mrs Leung Wai challenged the recipients to write down their short and long-term goals and to strive to achieve them.

"I challenge you all to make sure you have a goal and always pray for that goal to become a reality."

She reminisced on one of her family's routine, which is writing their own goals on a piece of paper at the start of every year, and then pray for their goals and working to achieve those goals.

"My son Joshua had a goal in 2018 which is getting a full scholarship for law,he prayed for his goal and worked his way to achieve it, and now he's got that law full scholarship because he worked hard to achieve it," she added.

She said she believes in hard work and prayer, which has enabled her to realise her dreams.

"The law scholarship my son received is NZ$286,000 which is almost half a million. You can do it as well if you pray for your goal and work hard to achieve it."

Mrs Leung Wai also offers her company's library for the scholarship recipients' use, on top of a part-time job with SSAB during the school holiday.

"Every Tuesday and Thursday, our library here will be available for you to use. And for our college recipients they are offered part-time jobs when school breaks," she said.

The company spent more than $20,000 for all the scholarships awards. Two scholarships were also offered for the Nuanua o le Alofa and the Samoa Victim Support Group (S.V.S.G.).

Mereitulagi Taofao, who is a student at Palauli College, told Samoa Observer she was blessed to get the funding support.

"I am blessed and honored to have offered such scholarship, it has never crossed my mind to be honest," she said.

"I was shocked when I first received the news that I am one of the lucky winners of the S.S.A.B. Meka back to school promotion.”

Getting teary in the eyes when talking about the financial difficulties her family face, Ms Taofao said the $500 cheque will assist her family in terms of her tuition fees and other associated expenses.

"This is a big help to my family most especially my parents. Now, they won't have to worry about my tuition,my uniforms and also my stationery supplies," she added.

"I want to thank Mrs Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai and staff of S.S.A.B. for choosing me as one of the lucky people to get this scholarship, and also the words of encouragement by Mrs Leung Wai during her speech.”

Ms Taofao said her goal this year is to continue to work hard and pray for God’s guidance.
