Couple find hidden sensations in Aganoa and Se’ese’e

Bill Van Peer, 63, and his beautiful wife Laura, have perfected retirement.

They agreed to share their love of the island with the Samoa Observer while enjoying a traditional music performance at the Cultural Village in Apia.

In their fifth week on the island they are starting to become accustomed to the heat, as Bill tells us. “The climate is my favourite part,” Bill said, while Laura is enjoying the “delicious local produce from the markets.”

Combining both travelling and helping a friend move to the island, the couple have found several local sites to recommend to their friends.

“I would highly recommend a visit to Giordano’s Pizzeria on Salanesa Road. They make really great pizza,” Bill said.

Nourish Café in the capital also comes highly recommended to any coffee lover.

Hiring a car has allowed the couple to cruise around the island, stopping frequently in idyllic spots. The south coast undoubtedly offers a plethora of hidden gems.

The captivating Aganoa Black Sand Beach is famous for more than its exotic coloured sand, having played host to the 2007 South Pacific Games Surfing competition.

The Papase’ea Sliding Rocks at Se’ese’e in the Faleata District are also rated highly by Bill and Laura. The natural wonder is the perfect place to bask in the blazing sun and then take a cooling dip in the pools.

The breath-taking beauty of the island is mirrored by the local’s connection to their heritage and eagerness to share it with tourists. The couple are excited to be entertained at Sail’s restaurant tonight with a display of fire dancing. The impressive show of talent is a must-see.

Next week they plan to go to beautiful “Savai’i to lie on a beach” before heading home. The island will be sorely missed. They will be sure to take advantage of their friend’s move to Samoa and be back soon!
