Exams to continue at N.U.S.

The National University of Samoa has confirmed that students will resume remaining semester two 2019 examinations beginning next week.

The University issued a public statement saying that exams will resume for three days, starting Monday next week until Wednesday along with the schedule of 32 courses remaining to be sat.

Students told the Samoa Observer have talked to say they cannot wait to get their exams over and done with.

A second year student, Adelaide Nafo'i of Tulaele, said this way, students are able to enjoy the holidays without the thought of exams looming over them.

"It was quite disappointing when they enforced the state of emergency because I had one more exam left," she said.

"But now that the notice is out and the exams will continue, Im glad they decided on this while the holidays are still early. This way, we can get it done and enjoy the holiday without having to worry about anything."

A third year student, Tafaogalupe Patu said she is also happy to resume sitting her exams, as long as the students are able to sit their exams without the risk of contracting the virus.

"If we are safe to continue then I don't see why we would postpone the exams again," she said.

Although there are also students who have started on their holiday plans including leaving the country without finishing their exams.

Acting Vice Chancellor, Silafau Sina Va'ai said those student would have had to go through their Faculty Dean for such arrangements, and the students were informed of how to handle such matters.

"If they are normal students and obviously thinking ahead and making sure their exams are covered, they would have made arrangements with their faculty deans to cover that," she said.

"They would have to do that because every student was told that due to the State of Emergency we actually had to stop and the last week of exams could not proceed until the State of Emergency is lifted."

Two students who are already overseas, the Samoa Observer contacted confirmed they have gone through this arrangement through a 'special examination' once they return. They each have one more examinations to go.
