Samoa’s newest opposition party, the Samoa National Democratic Party (S.N.D.P.) has called for the C.E.O. of the Ministry of Health to be sacked.

At a press conference held on Friday afternoon, the S.N.D.P.’s interim leader, Vui Seigafolava Masinamua, called upon the Government to sack Director General Leausa Dr Take Naseri.

"I call on his resignation,” Vui said.

“The Prime Minister [Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi] should sack him.

"The Government was acting based on the advice by Leausa [during the measles crisis]. Three months ago he (Leausa) downplayed the seriousness of the impact of measles."

Vui went futher and suggested that the entire Government and Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P) should tender their resignations as the fallout from the epidemic continues.

Comment has been sought from Leausa.

Lealailepule Romini Aiafi a Senior member and Whip of the H.R.P.P. laughed off the call.

"The Government is doing all they can to assist with the epidemic, the question is what are they doing to help with the response. And to blame the H.R.P.P. is downright wrong. The call is stupid and wrong. Don't waste our time," he said.

The S.N.D.P. is Samoa’s newest opposition party. It is a re-creation of the old opposition party, the Samoa National Development Party.

The Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, spoke at the party’s launch in September.
