A local company appears to have put aside concerns over the economic impact of the measles epidemic and expanded to the big island of Savai’i.

The Apia-based Le Well Company Limited, a retail outlet specialising in homewares and furniture supplies, has opened a branch at Salelologa with the firm’s management describing the expansion to the big island’s commercial centre as a “dream come true”.

The manager for the newly opened Savai’i branch, Elisapeta Salesa, told the Samoa Observer that the expansion plan had been on the cards.

"It was on our agenda for quite some time to set up a branch in Savaii,” she said.

The decision to open a branch on the island was due to increasing customer demand, according to Ms Salesa.

She said the quality products and services that are available in their Apia shop will be offered at the Savai’i branch for the same price.

The Le Well Company Ltd branch at Salelologa is located next to the Ah Liki compound.

Discussing some of the challenges they faced when setting up the branch, Ms Salesa said securing a location was a hurdle and it took them a month.

"It took the company (about) a month in securing the place and setting up was an experience with tremendous help from our workers, and the owners of the company."

The staff will now have to get used to working in a much quieter environment and using the inter-island ferry to move their cargo.

Ms Salesa said: "Trying to get used to a different environment, that is a quiet atmosphere and getting used to the system of ferrying stock across."

And customer feedback since the opening of the branch has been good with Ms Salesa saying their Savai’i customers appreciated the convenience of the shop being on the island.

"The people (in Savaii) have been thanking us for bringing our service here in the island. The main thing for most of them is that they no longer have to travel to Apia to shop or buy from our main branch.”

The positive feedback is spurring them to do their best for their customers and the business according to Ms Salesa.

"This motivates us to do our best to serve them well and make sure we have everything they need at a reasonable price."

The company also offering free delivery services for customers who live within the vicinity of the shop in Savai’i.

"We offer free delivery to the close by areas in Savaii. We also have Christmas special at the moment, same as the specials we have in our main branch in Apia,” Ms Salesa added.
