Off the back of hosting the inaugural FIBA Polynesia Cup in 2018, and the Pacific Games basketball in July, Samoa will host the 2021 FIBA Under 17 Oceania Championship.

The event will take place in December 2020, with the Multi-Sport Complex and Gym 2 (where the Pacific Games tournament was hosted) in Tuanaimato looking like obvious venues to host the tournament.

"We are delighted to announce and award the hosting rights for the 2021 FIBA U17 Oceania Championship to Samoa,” said FIBA Oceania Executive Director, David Crocker.

“Samoa has a fantastic track record in hosting sporting events - which helps in rapidly growing the development and popularity of the sport."

The top two teams at each U17 Oceania Championship earn places at the U18 Asian Championship, from which teams can qualify for the U19 World Championship.

At the 2019 edition of the Oceania Championship held in New Caledonia in August, Samoa’s U17 Men finished third while their U17 Women finished fourth.
