The Chairman of the Disaster Advisory Committee, Ulu Bismarck Crawley, is calling on members of the public to assist with the mass vaccination campaign on Thursday and Friday.

He reminds everyone to tie a red indicator on the doors of their homes if the family needs vaccination.

“This goes for all of Upolu, Savai’i, Manono and Apolima," he said.

"It will assist the team that will carry out the vaccination in the two days to come. We need all the help we can get.”

The Government has announced a complete shutdown for the private and public sector with the exception being officials and vehicles involved in the vaccination campaign.

“Each and every family should have a red indicator on their door to inform the teams that family needs the vaccination and this will also assist and make it easier for the teams to carry out their work.”

Ulu also appealed to families to assist the health workers by providing the accurate information required for the vaccinations.

He said, more than 1,000 government employees will assist with the mass vaccination

“We’re looking at more than 1,000 of government staff that will assist the health workers with the mass vaccination.”

Furthermore, Ulu calls on the Village Councils, Village Mayors, Church leaders and government women representative to assist the teams sent to the villages for the mass vaccinations.

Asked whether the two days will be enough for vaccination coverage, Ulu said it is too early to speculate.
