Qualifications Authority head quits
The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) of the Samoa Qualifications Authority (S.Q.A), Letuimanu’asina Dr. Emma Kruse Vaai, has resigned, with a year remaining on her contract.
The Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio, confirmed the resignation, telling the Samoa Observer Letuimanu’asina had resigned for personal reasons.
“Yes, I can confirm her resignation was presented to Cabinet some two weeks ago and has been accepted,” said Loau.
The Minister said that the authority is going through the usual process of advertising the position.
Letuimanu’asina did not respond to an email seeking her comments by press time.
In November 2017, she was appointed as the C.E.O. for a term of three years.
Letuimanu’asina was previously married to Supreme Court Judge, Justice Vaepule Alo Vaemoa Vaai, and was a Deputy Vice Chancellor of the National University of Samoa (N.U.S.) .
A former Professor of English and Applied Linguistic at the N.U.S. Faculty of Education, Letuimanu’asina is also a writer.
Earlier on in her academic career, she was the Deputy C.E.O. and Academic Director of the Samoa Polytechnic before the institution was merged with N.U.S.
She is a graduate of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand and the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia.
