The Samoa Cancer Society (S.C.S.) has raised a record $40,000 from this year Pinktober commemoration and say public donations are continuing to pour in.

On Thursday, Samoa Stationery and Books donated $1,000 to the Society as proceeds from their October promotions, which involved selling pink items in store.

Asomua Asia Stanley, the marketing and communications manager of S.S.A.B., spoke on behalf of the company's President, Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai, at the presentation.l

He said the donation followed the distribution of custom letters to business partners to buy pink A4 papers from S.S.A.B. As a form of donation S.S.A.B. donated $5 from each box purchased towards the Cancer Society.

The firm managed to sell 142 pink A4 boxes to some of their close business partners, coupled with the sale of pink products of the megastore and a further balance from the owner to make up the amount promised to S.C.S. from the start.

Samoa Cancer Society President Shelley Burich said the amount raised is about $6,000 to $8,000 more than last year's Pinktober.

Not only this but organisers say that they have doubled the other aim of the campaign: community outreach.

"This goes to show how the increase of awareness is happening," she said.

"It is not only about the monetary value of all of these awareness things but what community engagement is like, and this is showing that community engagement is coming forth, they're listening.

"This goes to show that people want more information and that they're more aware."

She reiterated that without the generosity of the community support, the S.C.S. it would be unable to deliver substantial campaigns.

Asomua congratulated the S.C.S. President, the Marketing Manager, Verona and their team for executing the campaign which they declared a success.

"We would like to thank our business partners, the business communities and government sectors that bought pink A4 papers and our walk in and values customers that bought pink products during the month,” he said.

Asomua made a special mention for those who were especially supportive of the campaign: the Samoa Qualifications Authority, Samoa Airport Authority, Office of the Regulator, Ministry of Health, Samoa National Provident Fund and Public Service Commission.
