Another baby dies, mother confused about cause of death
Another infant has died in what has been a deadly week for Samoan babies.
But the mother says they are confused about the cause of death.
The infant from Sale'imoa died at the Leulumoega hospital on Wednesday.
When the Samoa Observer visited the family, the mother declined to give her name and that of her baby.
She said she was not sure about the cause of death and she did not want their identities revealed under those circumstances.
But she revealed that her child was taken to a traditional healer before she got admitted in hospital.
But the child's condition worsened.
The traditional healer then urged the mother to take her baby to the hospital.
"The traditional healer told me my child had measles and not traditional illness," she said.
That's when she took the baby to the hospital on Wednesday. She died later.
According to the mother, a doctor at the hospital allegedly said the cause of death was not measles.
Attempts by the Samoa Observer to get a comment from the hospital in Leulumoega was not successful.
The distraught family refused to speak further about the dead baby’s situation as well as their family.
“If it was measles, we would share more about it but the doctors told us the cause of death is not measles,” the mourning mother said.
