Samoa’s finest bodybuilders will take on over 900 of the world’s best athletes at the World Championships in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, on Friday.

Mr. Samoa and Mr. South Pacific, John Lemoa, is competing in classic men’s bodybuilding, while Arona Mataia is competing in men’s physique.

They left Samoa for the Emirates on Tuesday along with coach, Magele Johannas Keil, and he said the 17 hour flight plus another 13 hours spent registering for the competition has taken a lot out of the team.

“We are battered and tired before we even step foot on stage,” Magele said.

Because of the water the body retains over a 17 hour flight, John Lemoa, found himself 5kg over the weight limit for his division at 96 kg.

He had three hours to drop the weight, and weighed in at 90 kg after some brutal cardio and sauna sessions.

In spite of the challenges, Magele said Lemoa and Mataia are focused and ready to compete with the world’s best:

“Whatever the outcome the boys brought their best, they left no stone unturned with their preparations.”

Magele attended the International Bodybuilding Federation International Congress on Thursday, with two days of World Championships competition begins at 7 pm Samoan time on Friday.
