The Chief Executive Officer of the Land Transport Authority (L.T.A.), Galumalemana Ta'atialeoitiiti Tutuvanu-Schwalger, has reminded members of the public they are not allowed to hand write number plates.

The woman in charge of the L.T.A. issued the reminder in response to questions from the Samoa Observer about vehicles with handwritten number plates.

Galumalemana said regulations make it illegal for vehicles with hand written number plates to be on the road.

"As for the written plates, you are not allowed to have written plates,” she said.

“The only plates vehicles can use are the number plates that are issued by the Land Transport Authority.”

The C.E.O. added that the law is being monitored and enforced by the Police.

The Samoa Observer spotted several vehicles on local roads with hand written plates, including one double cab pick up truck belonged to Ah Liki Construction Company.

Contacted for a comment, Leonardo Ah Liki, of Ah Liki Constructions, said the plate number has already been replaced.

"Someone stole the license plate and my guy wrote one out while waiting for new re-issue from L.T.A.," he said.

The hand written number plate has since been replaced with the legitimate L.T.A.-issued plate.

"It has since been done," he said.
