New charges for sex case Minister

A defrocked Methodist Church Minister will face two additional charges of sex crimes in relation to a 16-year-old girl who was previously under his care.

Tugia Tuliau will face two additional counts of sexual conduct with a family member, which brings the total number of sexual charges against him to 10.

In total, the former church Minister is facing eight counts of sexual conduct with a family member, one count of performing an indecent act on a dependent family member and one charge of sexual violation.

He appeared before Justice Tafaoimalo Leilani Tuala–Warren on Monday.

Represented by his lawyer Leiataualesa Komisi Koria, the 51-year-old is yet to enter a plea to the charges.

The alleged offending stemmed from three different incidents occurring this September when Tuliau was the Pastor of a Methodist church in Falealili.

His lawyer, Leiataualesa, asked for an adjournment so he could obtain instructions from his client in relation to his response to the charges.

The prosecution had initially charged Tuliau with eight charges.

The charges have since been amended with the aforementioned additional counts.

Tuliau is remanded on bail on the condition that he is prohibited from entering Satalo Falealili and refrained from contacting the alleged victim in the case.

The matter will be called again next Monday when Tuliau will be given the opportunity to enter his plea.
