61-year-old man pleads guilty to rape of 13-year-old girl

A 61-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a charge of rape, in relation to an incident involving a 13-year-old girl.

Fuimaono Tanielu Toma, of Salani Falealili, entered the plea through his lawyer, Trina Atoa, in the Supreme Court last week.

Fuimaono faced one count of rape and eight charges of sexual connection. 

Assistant Attorney General, Magele Leone Su'a, was the prosecutor Supreme Court Judge Justice, Tafaoimalo Leilani Tuala, presiding. 

The defendant pleaded guilty to all the sex-related charges. 

According to the Police report, the sexual offences allegedly occurred between December 2016 and March 2019 on separate occasions. 

The Police say the defendant raped the 13-year-old girl on or between December, 2016 and January 1, 2018. 

Justice Tafaoimalo accepted the defendant’s decision to vacate his plea. 

An order was extended to the probation officer for a pre-sentence report for the defendant. 

The prosecution was also asked to provide the victim’s impact report. 

Sentencing has been scheduled for 6 February 2020.
