SYDNEY (AP) — Test rugby will return to the Sydney Cricket Ground for the first time since 1986 when Australia takes on Ireland on July 11, 2020.

Rugby Australia said Friday the SCG match against the current Six Nations champions will be the second of a two-match series in Australia, with the first a week earlier in Brisbane.

Australia last played Ireland at the SCG 40 years ago in 1979. The move to the cricket ground was necessitated by continuing renovations to Sydney Football Stadium and the Olympic stadium.

Ireland won a series 2-1 last year over Australia, clinching the series with a 20-16 victory in Sydney. It was Ireland's first series win in Australia since 1979.

Both teams lost in the quarterfinals at the Rugby World Cup in Japan, Australia to England and Ireland to New Zealand.
