Apia Maroons tops Women’s Sevens Round two

The Apia Maroon Women’s Rugby team was crowned champions of the National Women’s Sevens Series of the Aana leg last weekend.

Held at the Leulumoega Fou College grounds, the match was the second round of the Aana leg series after round one (Apia leg) last month.

Apia Maroon was drawn in Pool B together with Aleipata II, Tiavea and Aana Blues, while round one champion Warriors were drawn in Pool A together with Mataiva, Aleipata I and Lupe ole Soaga.

Apia Maroons won all their Pool matches, defeating Aleipata II 40-0, 19-10 against Aana Blues, and defeating Tiavea 21-7.

Top three teams from each Pool advanced to the playoffs, which saw Aleipata I defeating Tiavea 15-12 during the fifth place clash, Aana Blues defeating Warriors 19-10 points during the third place match and Lupe ole Soaga, who topped Pool A, went down to Apia Maroons girls 20-5.

After two rounds of the National Women’s Sevens Series, Apia Maroons is now leading the table tally scores of 41 points, while Warriors is in the second spot of 37 points, Aana Blues on the third spot, sitting with a total of 30 points.

The final and last round of the National Women’s Sevens Series tournament - Aleipata leg - is set to kick-off at the Samusu field this weekend.
