Father facing 78 counts of incest requests bail to look after children
A man who is facing more nearly eighty charges relating to sexual crimes perpetrated against his daughter has asked to be released on bail so that he may look after his children.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter and the alleged victim, appeared before Justice Leiataualesa Daryl Clarke this week.
He is facing 78 charges of incest and rape in relation to acts committed against his biological daughter.
In his late forties, the man had asked the Court for compassion so he can be released on bail to assist his disabled wife care for their children.
“Your Honour, I beg that you allow me to be released so I can help my sick wife in looking after our children,” he said.
“For your information my wife is crippled and is disabled so she cannot look after our children and she needs me to assist in caring for our children.”
Prosecutor and Assistant Attorney General, Magele Leone Su’a. opposed the request from the man.
She emphasised that the complainant in the matter is the man’s daughter.
Justice Leiataualesa reminded the defendant that the charges he is facing are very serious and will not be granted bail this week.
He noted that the man has been given legal aid and will be represented by lawyer Su’a Helene Wallwork.
The matter was adjourned without plea next Monday for the legal counsel to appear with the man.
