Fire fighters water down gas tanker… but it’s just a drill
Members of the public need not to panic at the sight of a fire truck spraying water on the Origin Energy Tank Truck earlier.
“It was only an exercise,” says Fire Emergency Services Authority, Assistant Commissioner of Operation Tanuvasa Petone Mauga.
“Don’t be alarmed this was just a drill.
“This is part of requirements for companies who carry hazardous materials and explosive chemical and this is to assure the companies are well prepared in a case of an emergency.
“The bottom line is to assure the safety of not only the employees, members of the public.”
Asked as to why a notice was not posted to inform the public this was an exercise to eliminate panic, but Tanuvasa said they have their reasons.
“Accidents and mishaps always occur and it is best create the opportunity for the public to react if this was a real case scenario,” he said.
