Samoan businesswoman ascends N.Z. hospitality ladder

Samoan Caroline Ah Chong-Douglas has been named the Director of Sales and Marketing for the SkyCity Hotels Group in Auckland New Zealand. 

In a press statement issued by SkyCity Entertainment, Ms. Ah Chong-Douglas, will take charge of sales and marketing for a new division of the conglomerate, SkyCity Hotels Group, dedicated to expanding the group's already-extensive group of properties. 

SkyCity's empire includes the Horizon Hotel in Auckland and the Adelaide Casino hotel.

Brad Burnett will lead the SkyCity Hotels Group team as Group General Manager Hotels and Colin McClean will be General Manager – NZ Hotel Operations.

Mr. Burnett said he was thrilled to be leading the team. 

“The new centralised SkyCity Hotels Group function will allow us to not only synergise operations across our sites, but also encourage a Group focus to ensure that we continue to expand," he said. 

SkyCity said new hotel projects are underway in Auckland and Adelaide, while a number of other developments and projects are currently in the planning stages.

“SkyCity is truly committed to its hotel growth strategy and we look forward to sharing more developments and exciting changes in the coming months,” said Mr Burnett.

Ms Ah Chong-Douglas was born, raised and educated in Samoa and New Zealand. 

She attended Robert Louis Stevenson School and was Head Girl in 1996; and proceeded to National University of Samoa the following year and attained her University Entrance (UE).  

In 1998 Ms Ah Chong-Douglas moved to N.Z. to continue her tertiary education and attended the U.N.I.T.E.C. Institute of Technology graduating with a Bachelor of Business Studies.  

A family member said Ms, Ah Chong-Douglas chose to stay in Auckland and gain work experience and began her career there in 2001 as Marketing Assistant and Telesales Manager in New Business Development with the Employers and Manufacturers Association.

She later worked for the parent company of the New Zealand Herald before moving to SkyCity in 2009. 

She married Brendan Douglas of Auckland, NZ in 2009 at Sinalei Reef Resort, Samoa and they have two children: Noah Joseph and Sinalei Carol-Marie. 

Her parents are Gaono Joseph Randy Ah Chong and Papalii Tiumalu Caroline Paul-Ah Chong.
