Should the S.R.U. and Prime Minister apologise to sacked Manu Samoa head coach Fuimaono?

Members of the public have spoken out on the recent sacking of former Manu Samoa Head Coach, Fuimaono Titimaea Tafua, by the Samoa Rugby Union. Our reporter, Talaia Mika asked the public on whether the S.R.U. and its Chairman, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi should apologise to Fuimaono. Responses from some members of the public are outlined above:

Pasefika Faapoitasi, 25, Faleasiu

To me, it’s not right. Titimaea also has countless points in our nation’s teams. Like the fact that they championed the Sevens World Cup. Terminated. Went for Super 15 and won against Australia and it wasn’t long when he was also terminated. Now that we also have a chance for the World Cup, he is also being terminated without any reason.  I don’t want them to apologise but they should have looked into how much a person has contributed and the work they’ve done. I know with Titimaea, he has always represented Samoa’s name in the Rugby Union. I know with Titimaea, he has always represented Samoa’s name in the Rugby Union. This is something the Prime Minister should reconsider and Titimaea should still be the coach. In terms of the palagi coach, I do not support him. They’re only coming here to look for the money.

Fata Solomona, 39, Toamua

From what we feel, no we don’t apologise to the Government or Titimaea apologises to the government or the government apologises to Titimaea. Our concern is that they make a good platform to be followed and to guide whoever will be chosen to become the leader or the Manu Samoa coach. The government should implement a proper constitution. They should walk on the other step they should be taking. Stop making biased and wrong decisions. Do the right thing because if the I.R.B decides for what is right inside our atmosphere in our country and the issues happening, our team will be blessed and improved.

Seumalo Vise Lafai, 62, Faleula

In my own opinion, I agree that the Prime Minister, the President of the Union and the Union should apologise to Titimaea for sacking him without any problems. Remember that Titimaea went to find a chance for the Manu Samoa when they failed and now we have that chance but he accidently got terminated I don’t support removing Titimaea from the position of the coach. The Prime Minister and the Union should apologize because he is the president of the Union and they should look at things that need to improve.

Manuoletalalelei Kalai, 25, Malie

I don’t know what Samoa thinks but personally, I think it’s wrong. They should have finished Titimaea’s contract in regards to the arrangements the Union and Samoa had to make him the coach and now that he has been removed, I know a lot of us Samoans also don’t agree with this. My own opinion is that I’m not happy with it because I still want Titimaea for it and continue his contract as of how it should be with the programme.

Tuu Luatutu, 33, Salua Manono

My opinion about this is that Titimaea’s name shouldn’t be removed from being the Manu Samoa coach. It’s a must that Titimaea should still be carrying the position of coach for our country. It’s corrupt that we get coaches from overseas to train our team. It’s better to let Titimaea train, because he has been a legend in our team in the Sevens World Cup victory back then.
