No one has been arrested in relation to the death of Jeremiah Malaki Tauili’ili, a young Civil Engineer working at the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure, who passed away at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole hospital on Wednesday.

The Police confirmed this in a statement they issued last night.

“Samoa Police Service (‘SPS’) confirms that we are currently carrying out an investigation into an incident during the early hours of Saturday 1/12/2018 which claimed the life of Mr. Jeremiah Malaki Tauili’ili,” the statement reads.  “At this point no arrests have been made as the investigation is still continuing.”

The Police statement also addressed the growing number of threats made on social media in relation to the incident.

“There have been a lot of speculations and threats made on social media,” the Police statement said. 

“S.P.S. urges the public not to take the law into their own hands but allow the law to take its course. 

“Threats to any person(s) or damages to properties as a result of such actions is a criminal offence. 

“We encourage the public if you have any information that can assist with S.P.S. investigation to please contact S.P.S. Criminal Investigation Division (CID) on 22222.” 

The Police also offered condolences to the family of Mr. Tauili’ili.

Attempts by the Samoa Observer to contact the family of Mr. Tauiliili for a comment have been unsuccessful.
