Minister seeks update on Secretary suspended for alleged forgery
The future of a secretary, who has been suspended for allegedly forging housing permits, hangs in the balance.
The Secretary is that of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Infrastructure (M.W.T.I.).
M.W.T.I. Minister, Papali’i Niko Lee Hang, told the Samoa Observer he is waiting on a report from the Chief Executive Officer, Magele Hoe Viali, on the status of the matter.
“I will inquire with the C.E.O. on the status of this matter," the Minister said.
"This matter has to be transferred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution, as it is a crime."
The C.E.O. will report back to the office for work on Thursday after returning from overseas, said Papali’i.
Last month, the Minister confirmed the Secretary, Luana Palepua Kelsall, was placed on leave pending an investigating.
“I want to find out whether this matter has been transferred to the Police,” said the Minister.
He referred questions to the Public Service Commission.
In response, the P.S.C. Commissioner, Aiono Mose Sua, told the Samoa Observer they don’t deal with positions up to the Principal level.
“We only deal with A.C.E.O. positions upwards and therefore I cannot comment on that, it has to come from Magele.
“Any other position is dealt directly within the Ministries,” said Aiono in response to questions.
The Samoa Observer has reached out to Magele via e-mail, phone calls and texts messaged; however, he’s yet to respond.
The suspended Secretary has not yet responded to questions from this newspaper for a comment on the matter.
