A Samoan man living in Dubai, who had been approached to be on Samoa Airways Board of Directors, Kristian Hunt, declined the offer.

This was confirmed by the Airline's Chief Executive Officer, Seiuli Alvin Tuala, in response to a story titled "Samoa Airways Board Member resigns" printed in Friday's Samoa Observer.

Mr. Hunt is employed by Emirates Airline in Dubai and could not commit due to professional reasons.

Efforts made by the Samoa Observer to get comments from Mr. Hunt before the story was printed were not responded to.

The story in question quoted the Chairman of Samoa Airways, Muagututi'a Lafaele Ngau Chun, in response to questions from the Samoa Observer.

Today, Muagututi'a retracted his comments.

"He did not accept it (the offer)," Muagututi'a said.

"The clarification is that; my response to your question whether he resigned or not; my [earlier] answer was wrong. I shouldn’t have responded to that question as he’s not in the Board."

*This story was initially published under the headline "Samoa Airways Board Member resigns." It has been amended to reflect the retraction of comments from the Chairman of the Samoa Airways Board and also to reflect that Mr. Hunt was approached to be on the Samoa Airways Board but had declined due to professional reasons.
