Suspended Police Sergeant appears in Court

A Police Sergeant facing a charge of possessing an unlicensed firearm has appeared in the District Court for criminal mention.

The suspended Police Sergeant, Shrikrishna Schwenke from the Transnational Crimes Unit, appeared in the court on Tuesday.

The Officer is facing one count of possession of an unlicensed firearm. The matter was heard before District Court Judge Leota Raymond Schuster.

The defendant is represented by Mauga Precious Chang while Rexona Titi from the Attorney General’s office is prosecuting the case.

“We haven’t received the file from the Police and we seek a one week adjournment,” said Ms Titi.

Mauga informed the court the defendant seeks to enter a plea by the next mention date and asked for the charges be served to the defence before the next court date.

Judge Leota granted the prosecution’s motion and scheduled the matter for next week Tuesday for the charges to be finalised and served.

Police Commissioner Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil confirmed that Sergeant Schwenke was suspended last week along with Inspector Ituau Ale on allegations of misconduct.
