Residents of the Home of the Elderly, Mapuifagalele, have received a monetary donation valued $5,000 from Fish Savai'i Association.

Sister Elena of the Little Sisters of the Poor expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the assistance.

“At the moment we are looking after 43 elders here and the funding will be used for a lot of things that we cannot afford to pay,” she said.

“All we can offer is our prayers of blessings upon the team that has given us a helping hand.”

A representative from the Fish Savaii Association, Aeoainuu Tupa'i Vaai, said that the donation was a result of their Savai'i Game Fishing tournament hosted earlier this year.

“Our organization was set-up as an arm of Samoa International Game Fishing Association (S.I.G.F.A.) in Savai'i, aimed at bringing more events, tourists and people to Savaii which led to us hosting the Savaii Game Fishing tournament which has been running for three years," he said.

“The donation to Mapuifgalele was our way of giving back to the community after having a successful event thanks to our sponsors - we also have a responsibility to our sponsors that the money is spent well

“We are also planning to offer another $5,000 donation to a project aimed at trying to establish a Home of the Elderly in Savaii. Our committee comprises of Tanuvasa Alex Brunt, Asiata Trevor Meredith, Lemauga Charlie Vaai including myself."
