The Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (C.C.C.S.) of Vaivase-tai has celebrated its 50 years anniversary in a thanksgiving service at the S.C.O.P.A. Hall.

Members of the church together with invited guests from organizations, ministries and businesses converged at the hall recently to celebrate the occasion.

Church Secretary, Papali'i Dr. Samuelu Petaia, said the service was to give thanks for God’s support, for the land on which the church was built and for its members.

“The official day of celebration is the 27 of July every year which a service."

"Our forefathers initiated the idea of having a service to return thanks God."

“From the time our church was established, they later commemorated it with the thanksgiving service and so it has been 50 years since that time."

There are five main objectives of the service:

"It is to thank God for his blessings upon our church, the government for donating the land to our C.C.C.S, we then thank the C.C.C.S for giving us the land for our church to be built on, we pray in having a continuous thanksgiving spirit for members of the church and lastly,” he added.

Papali'i said the importance of the celebration is to also encourage church members to work in unity.

“It is also for our children to carry on this tradition when we are no longer around."

“The people in our village are known for  coming from other villages. But they have settled in Vaivase tai. It has been three to four generations."

“It is significant for us to celebrate because it is a memory that we treasure and carry on from our forefathers who were here before us."

"With that being said, our church is known to be a family."

There were entertainments provided a live band and also performances from Samoa Performing Arts & Creative Excellence (S.P.A.C.E) group.
