SCOPA A-Reserve continued to hold on to the A-Reserve Shield after defeating Mary-Marist in week four of the PFL National Netball League on Saturday.

Mary-Marist challenged the defending champions but they were unable to keep up with SCOPA's pace.

By the end of the first quarter, SCOPA had already led 7-3 from Mary-Marist, and 11-7 SCOPA for half time.

SCOPA extended their lead with another eight points in the third quarter while Mary Marist scored only six points. At the end of the third quarter the score was 19-13.

Mary-Marist pulled up their socks and played their best netball in the final quarter, closing points with SCOPA with just three points scored inbetween. But SCOPA did not let their guard down.

SCOPA retained the A-Reserve Shield with a 26-18 win against Mary-Marist.

The A-reserve champions have retained the shield since last year.

The SCOPA coach, Patrick Levi,  said the secret to retaining the shield for so long was training.

"It's just training and team work, and training throughout the week and getting to know each other better. The combinations and all that," he said.

Levi said the team trains every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at Samoa College. SCOPA has two A-Reserve teams and they often train by playing practice games against each other during trainings.

A total of 9 local clubs including SCOPA, Mary Marist, United SOulz, Collegiate, Vailele EFKS, Vaiala Ulalei, Hyundai and new teams, Pink Ladies and N.U.S., make up a total of 36 teams in the tournament.

The Shield Challenge for A Reserve and A Grade divisions are held each Saturday. Titles are currently held by United Soulz for A Grade and SCOPA for A Reserve.
