LONDON (AP) — Play has begun on Day 5 of the second Ashes test after a delay of 70 minutes because of rain — and Australia batsman Steve Smith has not taken the field.

Smith briefly retired hurt Saturday after being hit on the side of the neck by a vicious delivery from England paceman Jofra Archer. He returned after 40 minutes off the field following concussion tests, adding 12 runs before getting out for 92.

Smith didn't field at the start of England's second innings and he remained absent Sunday, with Marnus Labuschagne acting as the substitute fielder.

England resumed on 96-4, with a lead of 104. The draw remains the most likely result.

Australia leads the five-match series 1-0.
