Vaiola College takes out Savai'i school athletics
Vaiola College has once again run away with first place in Savaii’s inter-school athletics competition ahead of this month's Champion of Champions competition.
More than 10 colleges in Savai’i competed in Thursday's Zone C contest in preparation for the final of the inter-college athletic competition on the 30th of August: the Champion of Champions.
Held at the Don Bosco College compound, the event culminated in hundreds of students, teachers, family and friends watching on and and cheering for their peers, friends and loved ones.
For the past two years, Vaiola College has dominated the boy’s division’s competition, not only in Savaii but also during the Champion of Champions in Apia, especially in the track events.
Vaovasamanaia Tuua Tamala of the Sports Committee spoke thanked the participating schools, especially athletes and teachers who have been working hard to prepare for the contest.
“There has been a lot of improvement with our players over the years,” Vaovasamanaia said.
“We want to congratulate everyone who participated. Winning is important but true sportsmanship is what we want [to] encourage.
“Not everyone can win the race but what matters is that we all joined and got the opportunity to show your potentials and God-given talents.”
Vaovasamanaia also used the opportunity to thank the sponsors, for their ongoing support in making the annual event possible.
A list of all the athletes eligible to represent their respective schools will be finalised next week.
For the Junior girl’s division, Tuasivi College took away first place. Vaiola College came first in the intermediate girl’s division while Savaii Sisifo won first place for Senior girl’s division.
For boys, Vaiola College dominated and took first place for Junior boys and Intermediate boys while Don Bosco won first place for Senior boys.
The overall winner for Savaii Colleges athletic competitions for this year is Vaiola College.
