Police pursue new leads in case of missing man
The Ministry of Police says it is investigating “new leads” in the case of Semi Leau who was last seen three weeks ago, going swimming in the early hours of the morning at the Ocean Club Resort.
The Commissioner of Police, Fuiavaili’ili Egon Keil, confirmed that Police are pursuing a break in the case in response to questions from the Samoa Observer.
“I can confirm we have new leads and that we are investigating it at the moment," said the Police Commissioner.
"I cannot give any further information that may jeopardise the ongoing investigation."
Leau 35 of Solosolo has short black hair, brown eyes was last seen wearing a red t-shirt and brown shorts on July 23.
The Ocean Club's General Manager, Alexandria Meredith, previously told the Samoa Observer the missing man and an unidentified woman checked in the evening before his disappearance the next morning.
“They were staying here,” she said.
“They checked in on that evening and the next morning, the only thing I was notified of was that they had gone swimming and didn’t return.
“So I called the Police and left it with them.”
Ms. Meredith said the couple were locals from what she could ascertain, but she did not have the chance to meet them.
Police also confirmed the unidentified woman is not allowed to leave Samoa as there is a prohibition order placed with Immigration on the woman.
In the meantime, the Police continue to appeal for public assistance to locate Mr. Leau.
According to a Police statement, Mr. Leau has brown eyes and short black hair and was last seen wearing a red t-shirt and brown shorts.
“If you have any information that might lead to his whereabouts please contact our nearest police station,” it said.
The Police can be contacted through 911 or 22222.
