A woman who filed a criminal complaint against a member of the Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.) board for using insulting language has asked for the complaint to be withdrawn, a Court was told on Tuesday. 

S.R.U. Board Member, Seumanu Douglas Ngau Chun, was charged with one count of using insulting words and one count of failing a breath test last month. 

He appeared before the District Court yesterday in relation to the insulting words offence, which followed a complaint filed by a woman.

Represented by lawyer, Matafeo George Latu, he told the Court that the complainant has written to the Police Commissioner, Fuiavailiili Egon Keil, to withdraw her complaint. 

“We have been advised that she requested [a withdrawal] to the Police Commissioner,” said Matafeo. 

But Prosecutor Sergeant Khamtahn Stanley said he has not received a copy of the letter. 

Matafeo then sought an adjournment to allow prosecution to obtain instruction from Police Commissioner on the request made in the letter. 

He added that the defence will also find a copy of the letter. 

District Court Judge, Talasa Atoa Saaga granted the adjournment until the 27th of August.

The Judge said the adjournment was also an opportunity for the defendant to consider his plea to the final charges from Police.

The uttering insulting words charge against Seumanu was a result of a complaint filed in July. 

Seumanu is also a former Chief Executive Officer of Leadership Samoa and a board member for Samoa Sports Facility Authority (S.S.F.A.)
