Stop order issued for woman last seen with missing man
The woman last seen with a man who went missing two weeks ago has been prevented from leaving the country by the order of the Police.
The issuing of a departure prohibition order was confirmed by the Acting Police Commissioner, Papalii Monalisa Keti, in response to questions from the Samoa Observer.
The woman, who resides overseas, was the last person seen with missing man Semi Leau. The man from Solosolo, who has been missing for two weeks, was last seen after going swimming in the early hours of the morning at the Ocean Club Resort.
The woman's name has not been revealed.
“A departure prohibition order was issued last week,” said Papalii.
“At this stage it is still considered [a] missing person[s case] unless there is sufficient evidence to suggest whether foul play was involved.”
Papalii said there is no evidence to suggest foul play.
The Acting Commissioner added the investigation is ongoing.
The matter will be referred to the Coroner to set a date for Inquest at the completion of Police investigation.
She did not state when the Police will likely complete the investigation.
Mr. Leau was last seen at the Ocean Club Maninoa about 4 am on July 23.
In a recent interview with the resort manager Alexandria Meredith, she said that Mr. Leau checked into the resort with an unidentified woman.
“They checked in on that evening and the next morning, the only thing I was notified of was that they had gone swimming and didn’t return,” she said.
“So I called the Police and left it with them.”
The Police are appealing for public assistance to locate Mr. Leau.
According to a Police statement, Mr. Leau has brown eyes and short black hair and was last seen wearing a red t-shirt and brown shorts.
The Police can be contacted through 911 or 22222.
